It didn’t take long for me to figure out why the Merman Queen was planning to bring everyone there.
It was because it was necessary to open it.
That place was the ancestral tomb of the Merman Empire’s royal family and it was necessary to have the Merman Empire’s royal family’s blood to open it.
But it wasn’t just a small amount of blood that was necessary, it was a decent amount of blood that was needed.
I couldn’t help knitting my brows when I heard this, but they also explained that it wasn’t actual blood that was needed.
"It’s a precaution that was set up by the ancestors just in case someone wanted to break into the ancestral tomb. It requires more than one member of the royal family to open the gate just so no one else would be able to open it by stealing blood or using other methods. The blood itself isn’t necessary, it just needs to sense that there are two people from the same bloodline."
While I was skeptical, I didn’t say anything in the end.
After all, this was a world of magic and fantasy. It only made sense that there would be magical locks like this in this world.
It was strange hearing about it, but it did make me a bit excited since this was a rare chance to see this kind of magic lock.
Of course the Merman King wasn’t crazy enough to decide something like this on his own, especially when Ariel was pregnant like this. So he could only ask the Merman Queen for permission.
Once we arrived at the ancestral tomb, I couldn’t help raising a brow.
After all, it didn’t seem like a place for an ancestral tomb at all. Especially one for the royal family of the Merman Empire.
"Of course it’s hidden. It’s not as if we would broadcast to everyone where our ancestors’ tombs are." That was what the Merman King said after seeing the look on my face.
Then he waved at Ariel to come over to his side before the two of them swam up to a rock pillar that was sticking out of the ground.
The two of them moved around the rock pillar and placed their palms on it as if there was something there, but it really didn’t seem like it since this was a normal looking rock pillar.
In the end, they proved that they were right about this as there was a vibration that filled the water around us.
It was as if there was something that was grinding against each other with how the vibrations filled the water.
These vibrations didn’t last long before something else appeared.
The vibrations were a sign that the rock under the pillar was shifting and it opened up to reveal a set of stairs that seemed to lead down. Though the strange thing was that there was no need for stairs since this place was under the water.
At the same time, the space that opened up was also filled with water.
So in the end, all the mermaids had to do was swim down instead of walking down the stairs.
Yet they had chosen to create a set of stairs in this place...
"This place wasn’t always the ancestral tomb, this place also used to be special ruins that had been discovered by our ancestors."
"Is it safe?" I couldn’t help asking with one brow raised.
"They have already excavated everything that this place had to give, so there’s nothing left in here. The only reason that they used it as a tomb is because of the lost magic that is sealed in this place."
Lost magic...
That was a term that I hadn’t heard in a long time, but it wasn’t as if I didn’t know what that was.
After all, this was a term that had been in the game.
At the same time, it was quite the important term in the game.
Lost magic represented magic that surpassed the limits of the magic system that had been in the game. Though when it came to the lore, it was described as magic that was developed by an ancient civilization that was left behind by them when they disappeared.
It wasn’t magic that could be easily obtained, but it was magic that was far more powerful than the normal magic of the magic system.
But really it was just magic that was greater than the magic of the magic system.
It could be considered EX versions of spells that were part of the normal magic system.
As expected of the Merman Empire, they had resources that put them at the top.
It was no wonder they were able to support the Tide Empire that was one of the four empires of the human race.
When we entered these ancestral tombs, there wasn’t much that was here.
Though this place should have been ruins according to the Merman King’s explanation, it seemed that it had indeed been cleaned out as he said. There wasn’t a single thing that was left in this place from what I could see.
But it turned out that this was just out in the open.
One wouldn’t leave things out in the open, even if it was a secret tomb that was hidden by a secret door.
Things that were valuable would naturally be hidden in special places.
The first room seemed like a lobby with nothing inside of it, but there weren’t any doors at all either. That was until the Merman King and Ariel went over to one of the walls and placed their hands on it.
When they did, there was a sound that was like rocks grinding on each other that rang out before the wall suddenly opened up.
It seemed that if one wanted to go anywhere in these ancestral tombs of the Merman Empire’s royal family, they would need to do the same thing as they did when they entered this place.
This really was the best kind of security, though it certainly seemed like a pain getting around in this place.
