The trip back was deathly silent.
The kraken did follow us, but it didn’t have anything to say to the Merman King’s group that I came with. It seemed like the kraken was just completely unwilling to acknowledge them at all with how it ignored them.
It wasn’t as if the Merman King’s group was in any mood to care about this after the revelation that they had just heard.
This was a revelation that had completely caught them off guard and had shattered their beliefs.
Even if they didn’t want to believe it, it really was hard for them to deny everything that was presented to them.
So that was why they were heading back faster than when they came.
It was clear that the Merman King’s group wanted to find something that would disprove what they had just been shown.
"Take your group and start searching the records of the different ministries. Don’t leave out a single thing." The Merman King said in a serious voice when we arrived back at the capital.
"A foolish attempt." The kraken gave a snort as it said this, but the Merman King’s group just completely ignored it.
If it wasn’t for the fact that the kraken had shrunk itself, then it would have caused quite the commotion when coming to this place. After all, it had been much bigger than this and was quite the sight for anyone that saw it.
But now it was around the size of my palm and floated around me as if it wanted to protect me.
So that was why I grabbed the kraken and said, "Just remain silent for now and let them try to find something. There’s nothing to lose from this, right?"
The kraken didn’t seem convinced, but it didn’t say anything in the end as it just gave a simple nod in response.
I was the only one that it respected, which was why it listened to me.
Though it didn’t seem like the Merman King’s group reacted to what the kraken said, I could see that there were changes to their expressions. It showed that they were listening to what the kraken said and did have a reaction to it.
I chose not to say anything else other than this since this was something that the Merman King’s group decided to do.
After sending off the royal guards, the Merman King’s expression changed.
It was as if he suddenly fell into deep thought over something and was agonizing over a decision.
It took a while before he finally said, "Should we head back too?"
I was a bit surprised since I thought that he would surely excuse himself so that he would be able to follow up on some kind of lead. However, it seemed like he was more worried about Ariel than I thought.
Or that was the reason that I thought that he was heading back.
But in reality, it was something else.
"I have something that I want to discuss with you all."
When the Merman King came back, he suddenly brought this up.
The Merman Queen and Ariel were both surprised to hear this before both of them looked at me as if they were asking me what happened. It was just that I really couldn’t explain this with just expressions alone.
Even with words, it would have been hard to explain what had happened.
So that was why I didn’t say anything in the end as I waited for the Merman King to explain himself.
The Merman King was actually quite detailed with what he said as he told them about everything that we saw in that taboo zone.
In the end, I even took out the kraken to introduce itself as proof.
Though when it met the Merman Queen and Ariel, it didn’t seem to have a good attitude.
That was until it looked at Ariel’s stomach with a strange look.
With the way that the kraken looked at Ariel’s bulging stomach, it was clear that this kraken had sensed something from it.
Since this kraken was one of the god’s messengers, it was quite obvious what it was sensing from Ariel. Though with the way that it changed its attitude towards her alone, it seemed that it was able to see more than just that.
It seemed that this kraken was able to tell what the source of the thing inside of Ariel’s stomach was.
Was it because of the divine energy that it most likely possessed or was it something else?
When the Merman Queen finished hearing what the Merman King said, she revealed a look of deep thought instead of saying anything.
Ariel didn’t say anything either as she silently turned to look at the Merman Queen. The way that she looked at her mother was as if she was waiting for her to come to a decision.
I was a bit surprised that it was the Merman Queen that made the decision in this family, but then I remembered what I had seen last time.
The way that the Merman King acted around the Merman Queen made it very clear who held the power in their relationship. Since Ariel was their daughter, it was only natural that she had seen the power dynamic between her parents and knew who was in charge.
That was why she was also waiting for the Merman Queen to say something.
After a long silence, the Merman Queen finally said, "So you want to go into the ancestral tombs to see if there are any clues?"
The Merman King just gave a firm nod in response.
The Merman Queen seemed to be hesitating over something, but eventually she said, "I don’t know what we’ll find down there, but I don’t think that it’ll be what you want to find."
The Merman King once again didn’t say anything as he just gave a firm nod to show that he understood.
"Alright, let’s go then." The Merman Queen didn’t waste any time as she went over to Ariel’s side and helped her up.
It seemed that she was planning on bringing everyone there.
