There was a deathly silence that hung in the air.
It was clear that the Merman King’s group just couldn’t believe what they had heard, but it really was hard for them to deny it when these facts were in front of them.
First, there was a god that was telling them all of this.
Even if it was a god that clearly had a grudge against their god, it wasn’t as if this god would maliciously lie about something like this. Especially since there was someone that this god respected that was also here with them.
If there wasn’t that person, then it would be easier for them to ignore this.
Second, there were all of these races that were currently in front of them like this.
When the evidence was in front of them like this, it really was hard for them to ignore.
The fear and anger that the members of these different races demonstrated were real. This kind of emotion could not be faked since they were even willing to fight for these feelings.
As such, it was clear that there was some kind of past that happened here.
"Why did this happen?" That was all that the Merman King could say in the end.
I turned to look at Aestum as well since this was what I was curious about as well.
"Why would I know what that tyrant was thinking? One day, he suddenly cast out all of these different races that appeared in his domain for his favoured race. With nowhere left to go, I took them all into my domain and have kept them safe all this time."
Then with a sigh, Aestum said, "But there was only so much territory that I could keep safe with my powers alone. So even if they were saved, they were never allowed to grow as they should have and had to live a life of restraint."
Looking around, I could see that the coral houses really were quite close together.
There had been many different races in this place and it seemed like they were occupying all of the space that was available to them.
It really seemed like they were completely overcrowded in this place.
At the same time, it seemed like there were quite a few races that were in this place.
Each race would need their own space and their own environment, but there was only so much space that was available. In that space that was available, they could only do so much to make things comfortable for them.
It was no wonder they all looked malnourished.
There were only so many resources to go around, especially since the whirlpools had never expanded.
It was the only way to keep themselves hidden.
"No, Lord Aquaron would never do something like this."
It was one of the royal guards that broke the silence in the end.
The way that he spoke made it clear that he had full faith in Aquaron and seeing this now shattered that faith. That was why he just couldn’t accept everything that was told to him even though the evidence was right in front of him.
"Hold him down." The Merman King said in the end when he saw this.
Though he didn’t think that this royal guard would actually do anything, he couldn’t take a chance now.
The other royal guards hesitated when they heard this, but they still followed the order in the end. Though judging by the looks on their faces, it was clear that they weren’t willing to do this.
"Why were they cast out?" The Merman King asked in the end.
Though he wasn’t denying it, it didn’t mean that he would be willing to accept it that easily either. Instead of just blindly accepting this, he wanted to see if there was another side to this story.
"I just told you why." That was all that Aestum said in the end.
The Merman King didn’t seem like he believed this still and he wasn’t then only one.
It seemed like the Merman King group really wanted to find some explanation that would explain why Aquaron did this.
On the other hand, I couldn’t help thinking of the time that I met Aquaron.
Based on the impression that they gave me, it really seemed like this was something that they would do. After all, they gave off the impression of someone that seemed to care about their appearance.
But then again, it wasn’t as if any of the gods were simple.
If it was something like this, then even Aquaron wouldn’t have done it on a whim.
So there had to be a reason why Aquaron had cast away these different races in the end...
A long silence lingered in the air before the Merman King finally said, "I’ll go back and check the records. I’ll find the reason for this."
The firm tone that he had was as if he was determined to find an explanation that would prove Aquaron’s innocence.
It was just that the one that he was saying this to was someone that was much older than him. It was a god that he was trying to prove this to, one that had already seen everything happen firsthand.
So it wasn’t as if it would be that easy for the Merman King to accomplish this.
"Do whatever you want. I won’t make it hard on you today since I can see your sincerity." That was all that Aestum said in the end before ignoring the Merman King.
Turning back to me, Aestum said, "Holy Son, I recommend that you think carefully about who you work with in the future. There are some gods that really shouldn’t be trusted."
I narrowed my eyes to look at Aestum before saying, "For now, there’s something more important for us to handle."
The ball of blue light moved up and down again as if nodding in agreement before saying to the kraken, "Go on, you can follow the Holy Son back and watch over these dogs of Aquaron."
The kraken didn’t say anything and just gave a nod in response.
