Getting permission to leave wasn’t that hard in the end.
In fact, Rose even pushed me away in the end as if she was blaming me for not going sooner.
I knew exactly why she was acting this way.
It was all because the one that had been targeted was Dorothy in the end.
She was also angry at the royal guards for not acting sooner, but it wasn’t as if she could take her anger out on them. So that was why she directed that anger at me in the end.
So that was why I headed out as soon as I could.
Though it wasn’t as if I went alone.
I brought Ariel with me since we were going to a place that she was familiar with.
On the surface, it was a visit to the Merman Empire.
But in reality, that was where the territory of the god’s messenger was.
It only made sense that one of them would be under the sea, though the god that they represented wasn’t Aquaron, the God of Water.
Still, it would also be a good chance to bring Ariel back to see her parents before her due date.
She was getting close now and it was something that she wanted to do, even though she didn’t actually say anything. It was just that she knew how busy I was during this time and the things that I had to deal with.
This was one of the things that I felt guilty about, so this would make up for it.
Of course, the royal guards also wanted to come along.
It was much easier for them to follow us under the sea after all of the different things that the sea witches had developed.
But this time...
"There’s no need for that. You can stay here and watch the house."
That was what I said to the royal guards.
Klein and the others immediately frowned when they heard this.
Klein looked like there was something that he wanted to say, but I cut him off by saying, "There are the guards of the Merman Empire watching over us, so there’s no need for you to follow us. Or are you saying that you don’t trust the royal guards of our allies?"
Klein and the others revealed deeper frowns when they heard this, but they didn’t say anything in the end. After all, they could see the Merman Empire’s royal guards that were looking at them from the side when I said this.
The looks on their faces showed that they knew exactly why I was doing all of this.
It wasn’t that I was being petty with them, but I was punishing them.
It was clear that they still held their discrimination against Dorothy with how they acted during the assassination attempt.
While I didn’t doubt their loyalty towards the royal family since they were royal guards and I did consider Klein a close friend with all the times that he followed me, there had to be consequences for their actions.
In the end, I was still the king and they were my subordinates.
If I were to just let them get away with this, then it would set a bad precedent.
This was not the kind of thing that I could allow to happen, which was why I had to properly set the precedent.
So in the end, they just accepted this punishment.
Though I could see from their eyes that there were a few of them that didn’t really seem to accept it fully. It was clear that there were still some complaints in their hearts about this situation.
That wasn’t something that I could change.
So in the end, I just left matters like this.
With the Merman Empire’s royal guards escorting us, we quickly made our way to the sea.
There was a river that did lead all the way to the sea, which was the main route that we used to trade with the Merman Empire in the first place. However, it was clear that they used the best of the best to transport us.
After all, we arrived at the sea in just a single day.
Even if traveling underwater was faster than traveling above the water, it was clear that they had used things that weren’t available to normal mermaids to transport us.
That was just part of being related to the royal family of the Merman Empire.
Though the main reason was...
"Baby, how are you doing? Are you feeling well?"
The Merman King wasn’t as forward as the Merman Queen, but he did come forward to welcome Ariel. However, he did do the same thing as the Merman Queen where he made sure that she was alright.
I was completely ignored by them, but I knew why they cared so much about her.
She was their baby girl and she was pregnant, so it was only natural that they would pay this much attention to her.
When it was all over, that was when we were invited to the capital of the Merman Empire.
However, as we were heading there, I asked the Merman King a few questions.
"Why do you want to know about that place? In fact, how do you even know about that place?"
I didn’t answer these questions and instead said, "It’s important to me if you can tell me anything that you know about those places."
The Merman King couldn’t help looking at me with a strange look when I said this, but I just looked back at him with a firm expression on my face.
So in the end, he said with a sigh, "We don’t really approach that place because there’s something special there. It’s one of the taboo zones since there’s something that keeps everyone away."
With a sigh, I said, "I think that thing is what I’m looking for."
The Merman King’s expression became even more strange when he heard this, but eventually he said with a sigh, "I’ll get the reports for you when we arrive."
I gave a simple nod in response.
