The royal guards came forward to take away all those that had been captured and there were some that came to clean up the bodies of the ones that died.

Even if they had died, there were things that we could learn from their bodies.

After all, there were all kinds of markings that one could use to recognize someone.

I just went over to Dorothy and asked, "Are you alright?"

She didn’t seem bothered at all by the fact that there were people that had been killed in front of her.

But then again, it wasn’t as if Dorothy had a normal childhood to begin with.

The things that she had seen...

I turned to Lupus and said, "Thank you."

She gave a nod, but it seemed like she was unhappy about something.

I didn’t even need to guess to know what it was.

If it wasn’t for the order that I gave, she wouldn’t have protected Dorothy at all.

Dorothy was someone that was filled with corruption energy in the first place, so it wasn’t as if she would get along with one of the god’s messengers like Lupus.

Though she did seem to get along with Zeldir, but that was because he knew something that he wasn’t telling us. This was most likely something that Nox had told him to keep from the rest of us for now.

Since both Dorothy and Lupus were alright, I followed the royal guards down to the dungeon to see who it was that had attacked them.

But when we pulled off their cloaks and revealed their true appearances, we couldn’t help being surprised by what we saw.

It wasn’t hard to guess what these people were, but it was surprising to see that there were actually people like this.

There wasn’t a single recognizable feature that was on them.

All of their hair had been removed and the areas where they might grow had been burnt to prevent that from happening again. Their teeth were clearly fake teeth that were filled with poison for them to swallow if they were captured.

It was as if they were born to die with how much had been changed with their bodies.

It wasn’t hard to imagine what kind of people would have approved something like this, but the problem was that these people were still technically their allies.

After all, the only ones that knew anything about Dorothy were the ones from the racial alliance.

That meant that these assassins were from the racial alliance.

They had been sent to take care of her before she could become a problem.

"Give me information and I’ll make it painless."

That was the only thing that I could actually say to try and convince them to talk, but I knew that it wouldn’t work.

The looks in their eyes were more than enough to show what they were thinking.

When these assassins had been trained, the ability to think for themselves had long been trained out of them. Even if they wanted to make a deal, this wasn’t possible for them since they no longer had this mental capacity.

"Do what you can to see if you can find any way of recovering their minds."

I didn’t kill them in the end.

It wasn’t their fault that they had turned out like this, it was the fault of the ones that had trained them like this. So even if it was very unlikely that we would be able to get anything out of them...

The royal guards understood what I meant by this and even though some of them showed hesitant looks, they still followed my orders.

But for those that had turned into corpses...

"Dissect them and find out anything that you can from them."

This was an order that the royal guards were more than willing to follow.

I knew that it was cruel to do something like this to the corpses of those people, but really had no choice since we had no clues at all about this.

I could only apologize to them in my heart.

After all of this was arranged, I went to get a bit of rest since I had an early morning.

...

"I’ve heard that you were attacked. Is everything alright?"

The fact that the royal guards had been moved was something that was hard to hide.

The royal guards hadn’t just secured the castle, they had also secured the entire capital just in case. When this happened, it was only natural that the others in the racial alliance would know about what happened.

So that was why there was this meeting that was held first thing in the morning.

"It was nothing serious." I said in response to this question.

The representatives from the racial alliance looked at me with strange looks when they heard this, but they didn’t say anything in the end.

I knew that there were some that would know far more than the rest about what happened.

It wasn’t because they had better intelligence networks, it was because they were the ones that had been behind the assassination in the first place. But it wasn’t as if I could call anyone out since I had no idea who it was.

That was why it was best to act like nothing had happened.

In the end, none of the representatives from the racial alliance said anything else about this matter.

Though there were some that promised that they would help if something did come up.

For now when I had no idea who the culprits were, I had no choice but to reject every offer that they made.

But that didn’t mean that I wouldn’t do anything at all.

There was no doubt that there would be more assassination attempts in the future, so I had to take initiative before that happened.

Other than making sure that Dorothy was in a safe place, I had to find some more helpers to take care of this matter.

So I went to find Lupus and Zeldir.
