When the meeting was over, it was decided that Dorothy would remain under my protection.
Or it was better to say that I would be the one that would act as her warden since she would be kept under watch until this situation was solved.
After all, it was too dangerous to just leave her alone like that.
The only thing that we could do now was keep her under the safe zone created with divine energy. Otherwise, there was no telling what the forces of Destruction would do if they could reach her.
But this certainly wasn’t a long term plan since it took a lot to create this safe zone.
That was why we had to find a way to get rid of the black dot that was on the back of Dorothy’s neck.
There was no doubt that this black dot was the way that the forces of Destruction would be keeping an eye on her. So if we wanted to hide her in a safer place, it was necessary to get rid of that thing tracking her.
So even before the meeting, I had already sent someone to take a look at this black dot.
Of course, there was only one person that was actually able to do anything with that black dot.
"Well, how is it?" I asked Max who was currently standing over Dorothy.
The way that he looked at the black dot didn’t seem like it was healthy, but I didn’t say anything as I waited for him to tell me what he found.
It was the same for Dorothy who was forcing herself to sit still while he stood over her like that.
"Nothing at all." He said as if it didn’t mean anything to him, but I could hear the frustration that was in his voice.
Even if he sounded frustrated, this frustration wasn’t because he felt bad about not being able to help Dorothy.
For this person who only cared about his research, he felt frustrated because this was something that he couldn’t get to the bottom of.
"Did you find anything about the structure of it?" I asked instead.
Max took out a piece of paper that he handed over to me without a word before going back to look at the black dot that was on the back of Dorothy’s neck.
I didn’t care about him as I started reading the report that he handed to me.
"Connection? It’s connected to something?" Looking back up at Max, I asked, "How are you so sure of this?"
Max just said, "The concentration of corruption energy keeps changing, so it’s clear that there’s something that’s causing it. The corruption energy doesn’t interact with the rest of the body, so the only explanation is that there’s something connected to it that’s changing the amount of corruption energy inside of this thing."
"Then do you have any solutions at all?" I asked Max in a heavy voice.
Max didn’t respond right away as if he was deep in thought, but eventually he said, "I have come up with something..." After hesitating a bit, he finally said, "It’s experimental and not something that is guaranteed to work. I can’t even guarantee if she’ll be safe when we use it on her."
"Out of the question." Rose’s voice came from behind us.
A wry smile appeared on my face when I heard this, but I didn’t say anything to contradict what she said since she was right.
This was something that was untested and dangerous, there was no way that we would allow this kind of thing to be used on Dorothy.
Only it seemed like Dorothy had other ideas.
"Do it." She said after Rose spoke.
Both Rose and I narrowed our eyes to look at Dorothy, but it seemed like she had completely made up her mind already. It seemed like she wouldn’t change her mind no matter what we said.
The way that she looked right at us was more than enough to show us the kind of determination that she had.
Since she was this determined, it wasn’t as if we could use the hard method to convince her.
If we just clashed with her, it might even push her to do something even more drastic.
"It’s dangerous and untested. I know that you’re anxious, but we should wait until Max comes up with something that is more stable and safe." I said in a calm voice as I tried to convince Dorothy.
Rose’s expression relaxed a bit, but she still had the stern look on her face when I said this.
However, Dorothy just said, "I know, but there’s not much time left. There’s no telling when they’ll come for me, so I want this thing gone as soon as possible."
What she said was logical and it was all true.
After all, she was the one that had been targeted this time and it was clear that they would be coming for her soon.
There was a long silence that lingered in the air before Rose finally broke it.
"Fine, we’ll let you do this..."
Then turning to look at me, she said, "But he’ll be keeping watch. If anyone goes wrong, then we’ll be stopping it right away."
Dorothy came forward without saying and hugged Rose before finally saying, "Thank you, mom."
Rose didn’t say anything, but there was a complicated look on her face as she hugged Dorothy.
The method that Max mentioned was actually quite simple in itself.
It was a device that he invented that would be able to send divine energy directly to the place that it needed to be. It was similar to how a needle would be used to inject medicine into the body, but it was for divine energy.
Only the moment that the divine energy was injected into the black spot...
"Grr..."
There was a roaring that came from it before there was corruption energy that leaked out.
It seemed that we had provoked it a bit too much and now it was defending itself.
