I still couldn’t help feeling that there was something off about all of this, which was why I had my people send messages to all the other groups suppressing monsters.
Though the reports that came in said that they were doing fine and there weren’t any problems, I just couldn’t feel assured and needed someone to report in.
But the only reports were...
"Everything is going as planned."
As well as...
"Is the commander alright?"
This wasn’t a report that was supposed to reach me, but it was easy for me to get this from the messengers.
Still, I made sure that they kept sending these reports in so that I could tell what was happening with each of the battlefields with the monsters.
With all of these reports, it was easy to see that there was nothing that was happening in our battle. It seemed that the same thing happened with each of the monster kings that we had to take down where there was something distracting them.
Slowly I realized...
"It’s a distraction, but not for them. It’s a distraction for us."
If that was the case, then what was their real goal?
There had to be something that they were targeting if they were going this far to create a distraction like this.
"Let’s head back." I said in a decisive voice.
The others were surprised to hear this and there were a few people that seemed hesitant about this. After all, it wasn’t as if all of the monsters had been wiped out yet and there was still more to do.
"We’re not all heading back. I’ll leave this to you." I said to Old Man Lancelot.
He wasn’t surprised at all since this was what he had expected, so he gave a simple nod in response before saying, "What are you all waiting for? Get in formation and start clearing out the monsters that will be running. Since they’ve lost their leader, you can be sure that they’ll start scattering like rats."
This was something that he was familiar with as a legendary knight.
After all, it was something that he had done quite often in the past.
Since he had this experience, it was easy for him to take control of the forces and take down all of these monsters.
Though the look on his face...
It was clear that he still hadn’t forgotten what happened in the past and he wouldn’t show any mercy to these monsters that were infected with corruption energy.
With Old Man Lancelot leading them, there was nothing that I had to worry about.
"We’re coming with you."
I wasn’t surprised to see that Klein and the other royal guards were following me.
In the first place, their task as royal guards was to protect the royal family.
So in this case, it was their job to protect me.
With all of us getting on our wyverns, there was nothing that stopped us. Especially since this was a pack of wyverns that had Joan at their head.
When we arrived back in the Kite Kingdom, the first thing that I did was, "Where’s Dorothy?"
The prime minister was already confused why we had suddenly come back, but he was even more confused when I asked him this question. But in the end, he suppressed these feelings and led us forward.
"What was it like facing them?" He asked while we were walking.
"It felt like they were being controlled by something that was forcing them to do this."
"Then it’s a trap?" He asked right away.
"Or some kind of distraction."
Once I said this, the prime minister started moving even faster.
When we arrived, I immediately noticed the trace of corruption energy that was in the air.
As soon as I noticed this, I charged into the room to find that there was Dorothy and Lupus that were surrounded by corruption energy. This wasn’t the corruption energy that was created by Dorothy, this was corruption energy that didn’t seem to have an owner.
Lupus had a barrier around them that was protecting them, but it seemed like it was a matter of time before it would break.
"Call for backup." The prime minister said before moving back.
It wasn’t that he was scared, it was that he knew that he wouldn’t be able to help.
I was the one that charged forward with Zeldir coming out from my collar.
He had been able to change his shape and size, so he wrapped around my neck as if he was some kind of necklace. When it was time, he came out in his proper form and fought alongside me.
The corruption energy that was around Dorothy and Lupus wasn’t that strong, but it seemed tough as it took all of the blows that we sent at it. With how it tanked it, it was as if it had absorbed the attacks.
But for someone like me that could sense the flow of divine energy, I could tell that it had negated it.
That meant that there was a large amount of corruption energy that was there, yet it wasn’t able to break through the divine energy barrier that Lupus had set up.
It really didn’t seem to make sense, but that wasn’t the important thing right now.
It was clear that the real target behind all of this was Dorothy.
This was something that we had expected to happen one day, but we didn’t expect it to happen so soon...
"It seems like you’ve been hiding something interesting."
The moment that this voice rang out, all of us froze.
We could all hear the power that was behind this voice.
It was clear that this voice didn’t belong to a normal person.
But I recognized this voice as soon as I heard it.
It was hard to forget this voice since it was the voice of someone that was quite high up among the forces of Destruction.
It was the second of the Four Omens, War.
