As I came forward, I could feel the concentration of corruption energy in the air rising.
Since I was sensitive to divine energy, it meant that I was also sensitive to corruption energy.
After all, they were the two sides of the same coin.
Just from stepping forward, it was enough to sense how much corruption energy filled the air. It felt like I was meeting one of the Apostles of Destruction with how much of it was in the air.
However, that wasn’t enough to stop me.
It was enough to stop a normal person or even one of the soldiers trained by the racial alliance, but this was far from being enough to stop me.
After all, I was someone that had far more divine energy than the average person.
Once I came closer, I saw the ones that were fighting.
It was a large hobgoblin and a large ogre, but they weren’t that simple either. There were patches of their bodies that had black spots on them, as if they were filled with corruption energy.
It was quite clear that these two had been affected by corruption energy and were even being controlled by it. It was just that it was strange that there wasn’t more mutations that came over them.
At the same time, it seemed as if they were lifeless puppets that were just following orders.
This certainly didn’t seem like something that the forces of Destruction did.
"It doesn’t matter right now. Right now, I need to take the two of them down." I said with a sigh in the end before slowly moving towards these two monster kings.
But it didn’t seem like they noticed me at all.
I had even made sure that they would notice my presence by giving them as many signs as possible. It was just that it didn’t seem like either of them seemed to care that I had approached them.
It was as if to the two of them, the only thing that seemed to matter was each other.
They were in a life and death battle, but that alone didn’t really explain why they were completely focused on each other like this.
After all, a life and death battle included many different things.
For monster kings like this, it would be impossible for them to lack experience when it came to this. There was no doubt that they had this kind of life and death battle before and would have the awareness if anything were to approach.
So that meant that they were deliberately ignoring me.
As for why they were doing this...
"Take this then." I said as I raised my hand and sent out icicles flying at the two of them.
I didn’t really intend to hurt them with this simple attack, but...
"Grr..."
Both of them let out grunts of pain when the icicles hit them. Even when the icicles seemed to melt a hole in them, they didn’t really seem to care that they were injured to this extent as they focused on fighting each other.
It really seemed like the only thing that they cared about was each other.
There wasn’t a single second that they cared about anything other than the enemy that was in front of them.
"There’s so many openings..." I muttered to myself as I watched them fight.
It was clear that they were being forced to fight for some reason, but it really didn’t make any sense that they were this focused on fighting each other.
After all, this wasn’t benefitting anyone...
"The way that they’re being controlled is different from the normal way that the corruption energy controls the ones that it affects. It’s almost as if there’s a command that’s been put into their minds and they’re just following that one command."
The more that I watched them, the more that it felt strange.
Though I was trying to be bait by attacking them by myself, it was as if they were trying to bait me in by revealing all of these openings.
"I’m the bait, so I have to do this." I said with a sigh before raising my hand to gather power once more.
It didn’t take long for me to gather a few more icicles that I shot out at the two monster kings in front of me.
Each time that they were hit with one of the icicles, it didn’t seem like they reacted at all.
It was as if they were just taking all of the blows that I was throwing at them as if they didn’t care that they were being injured.
But by taking all of these hits, it didn’t take long before they were both on the ground.
Neither of them were moving in the end and there were chunks of them that were missing because of the icicles that hit them.
Even until the very end, they didn’t seem to struggle at all.
It was as if they were nothing more than puppets...
"Is it over?" The others that had been watching approached when they saw the two monster kings collapse.
I gave a nod without turning back, looking at the two monster kings on the ground with a strange look on my face.
But no matter how I looked at these two monster kings, I really couldn’t figure out what the forces of Destruction were planning here. It didn’t really seem like there was a plan and I had been thinking too much the entire time.
"How is the situation on the other battlefields?" That was the only thing that I could think of, but it turned out that my guess was wrong.
"Nothing has gone wrong so far. It seems like all of the battles have gone smoothly so far."
I couldn’t help revealing an even more confused look when I heard this.
Just what were the forces of Destruction planning with all of this?
It wasn’t a distraction and it wasn’t a trap...
It had all been a waste of time...
