"How is it? Are they useful?" I asked Shadow One who was hiding in the shadows behind me.

I had told her that she could sit down with me, but it seemed like she refused.

It had been a while since we had seen each other because I had the royal guards protecting me and I had assigned her to protect the prime minister.

But the moment that we met, it was as if she was avoiding me.

It was as if she thought that she would get pregnant just from coming close to me.

"I can see some use in them, but I don’t really understand why we need them." Shadow One gave her honest response to this question.

I had expected this since she didn’t have the same eyes as the prime minister, but I had my ways.

"I know that you’re looking down on them because of their background, but I do have to remind you that these people have no fear and their minds are quite sly because of their profession. I think that this should be helpful to you in your line of work."

Shadow One seemed a bit doubtful when she heard this, but she remained silent as she continued observing the people participating in this tournament.

This tournament was a strange one to begin with since it was a gambling tournament.

This certainly wasn’t the kind of tournament that one would have expected to be hosted since it was something that was usually frowned upon by others.

Gambling certainly wasn’t something that others looked favourably upon, but there was a reason why it was done all over the continent. Gambling was an activity that many followed, whether good or bad.

Among the gamblers that were gathered here, there were some that were talented.

Though the kind of talent that they possessed couldn’t be considered a good thing since there were only a certain kind of people that could always win.

It wasn’t a proper method that they won with.

They created their own luck.

This was the kind of method that Shadow One looked down on even though she was in a similar business.

But since I was forcing her to watch them, she started paying attention to the different ways that they cheated while gambling.

The game itself was simple since it was just a normal texas holdem, but there were many different ways that they cheated.

Eventually, it seemed like Shadow One recognized the things that these cheaters did and started applying them to the things that she did. She knew that with the sly hands that these people had, they would be helpful to her.

It was just that she still looked down on them.

That was when I suddenly said, "You’re free to do whatever you want with them. Whether they remain alive by the end of it...that’s up to you."

She looked at me with a surprised look when I said this, but I didn’t change what I said.

After all, I knew what kind of people they were.

Even before holding this tournament, I had people already check them for me.

After staring at me like this for a bit, she finally asked, "Are you sure about this?"

Shadow One slowly gave a nod, but I could see the trace of a smile that was in her eyes.

It seemed like as long as I gave this approval, she would accept what I said.

But after thinking about it, I added, "Don’t do anything to these ones. They’re important and we need them later."

As I said this, I took out a list for her to read.

Shadow One looked at me with a confused look when she heard this and she looked over the list that I handed her, but it didn’t seem like she recognized the names that were on the list.

That wasn’t strange since none of them were famous people.

They weren’t even famous in the game, but I was able to recognize the things that they did.

They weren’t cheaters like the rest, they were simply lucky.

Since they were lucky, it meant that they had to have a high stat luck.

There was something that I wanted to test with these people later, so I needed to recruit them to make use of their luck.

But this was something for later.

In the end, Shadow One gave a nod to show that she understood and I didn’t bother asking her anything else since she agreed.

Though there was one thing that I wanted to tease her about.

"When are you planning to get married?"

She was normally quite good at controlling her emotions, but this was the one time that she couldn’t help being caught off guard.

"Just tell me when and I’ll prepare a proper wedding for you and him. This is the least that I can do to welcome you to the family."

I didn’t wait for a response as I walked off with a faint smile.
