When morning came, I was surprised to find how much Dorothy was sticking to Rose.

After what happened yesterday, they had gone to bed together.

And when they came out this morning, there were red sacks that were on Dorothy's face.

It was clear that she had let out all the emotions that she had been holding back this entire time.

However, it wasn't as if this was a bad thing.

The emotions that had been in her heart could be considered a burden that she had finally freed herself from. As such, she would be able to move on from this and would be a new person in the future.

But after she shared her emotion, it seemed that there was a clear preference now.

Instead of coming to me when she saw me, it didn't seem like she wanted to leave Rose's side.

It reached a point where it seemed like Lily was jealous of her.

The way that they competed was almost like siblings that were fighting over a parent's love, so it wasn't as if they took things too far.

The way that my three daughters hung around Dorothy, it was as if they had already taken her as their new sister.

Kids really did adapt quickly as they were already able to accept Dorothy after just a single day.

It even seemed like they didn't mind becoming little sisters since Dorothy was clearly older than them in terms of mentality. Though in terms of actual size, they weren't that different since my daughters grew quite fast.

In a few years, it might even be Dorothy that seemed like the younger sister.

"My daughters really are kind." That was the only thing that I got out of this in the end.

I didn't mind being a doting father since it meant that I could spoil my daughters.

But there was something that I did need from Dorothy.

"Let's go and talk to the researchers today. I'm sure that they're already getting impatient after setting up everything."

After I said this, Dorothy looked at me as if I was tearing her away from her family.

Though just a day ago, she had hung onto me as if I was the person that she was the closest to.

The reason that they had followed us back in the first place was all because they wanted to study Dorothy's condition. That was why they had already set themselves up the moment that they arrived.

Since it was Puffer that came with us, that meant that they were able to use her lab that we had set up for her previously.

But it really didn't seem like Dorothy wanted to go.

It seemed like she wanted to stay with Rose the entire day with the way that she was hanging back.

When I saw her like this, there was one thing that came to mind.

"Children really like their mothers better than their fathers…"

This was something that I was afraid of happening with my daughters and it was already happening with this new daughter that I had adopted.

However, it wasn't as if I could just leave her be.

I was certain that if they didn't see her soon, they would be coming for her.

After all, the main reason that they had come was just to study Dorothy.

Seeing this, Rose said, "Just go and come back soon. I'm sure that they won't keep you that long."

Dorothy didn't seem happy to hear this, but she was compliant this time as she came over to my side.

With the way that she looked at me, it really felt as if I was taking a child from her mother.

Though I knew that the words that Rose said weren't just for Dorothy alone.

I knew that these words were also for me.

She was telling me not to keep her there for that long and to stop them if they wanted to keep her longer than intended.

I gave her a nod with a faint smile before taking Dorothy away.

When we arrived at the lab, I found that there were a bunch of researchers that were just standing there as if they were waiting for something. The moment that they saw us come in, it was as if they suddenly came back to their senses and came over to look at Dorothy.

The moment that this happened, she immediately went behind me.

This wasn't something that Dorothy would have done before.

She would have moved back a bit, but she never would have moved behind me like this.

This showed that she was slowly opening her heart. This showed that just like how she started taking Rose as her mother, she was taking me as her father.

Since she was giving me this trust, I raised my hand to stop all of them from approaching.

Even if they were excited, it wasn't as if they had lost all control of themselves. Especially since they saw me raising my hand like this to tell them to stop.

The prestige that I had came to play at this moment as I was able to stop them.

But they looked at me as if they were waiting for me to do something about this.

Even if they were waiting, that didn't mean that they didn't want to take a closer look at Dorothy.

So I just said, "What kind of tests are you planning on doing today?"

"We were thinking about doing a simple diagnostic to see what her condition is as a start, but then we would have to think of different things that we can test."

"Just run the diagnostic today. We have to be back before dinner tonight."

All of the researchers looked at me with strange looks when they heard this, but I looked back at them with a straight look on my face as if I wasn't messing around.

So in the end, the only thing that they could do was nod in agreement.

I could feel a small hand holding my shirt tightly after I said this.
