With Pestilence captured, there was only one thing left to do.
I made sure that the bindings holding him wouldn’t break before lifting him up and forcing him forward.
It didn’t seem like Pestilence wanted to come with us, but there really wasn’t anything that he could do. If he didn’t move, then I would use divine energy to force him to move.
As such, we started heading towards the array.
As we came closer to the array, there were corruption energy monsters that appeared.
It seemed that they sensed that Pestilence was in danger, so they came forward to save him. It seemed that they didn’t even care about their own lives with how they charged forward into the divine energy attacks that I released.
Seeing this, I knew that there would be no stopping them unless...
"Tell them to stop."
Pestilence didn’t seem to listen when I said this.
Instead, with the way that he looked at the corruption energy monsters, it even seemed like he was urging them to continue attacking like this. It was as if he wanted them to attack even more fiercely so that we would release him.
Seeing this, I knew that there was no talking to him.
As such, the only thing that could be done was...
"Tell them to stop or else I’ll finish you off." As I said this, I created divine energy icicles that I placed at Pestilence’s throat.
It didn’t seem like he was scared of me at first with how the corruption energy monsters continued to charge forward. So when that happened, I pushed the divine energy icicles deeper into his throat to start hurting him.
That was when the corruption energy monsters finally stopped charging at us.
However, that didn’t mean that they left us alone.
These corruption energy monsters still swarmed around us and completely surrounded us. With the way that they surrounded us, it was as if they were waiting for a single opening to come forward to save Pestilence.
But of course, I didn’t give them that.
Since they were keeping their distance now, it meant that we could move forward.
When we did, they parted aside like the waves did for Moses.
With this path that was cleared, we were able to make our way to the corruption energy array.
It seemed that this corruption energy array had calmed down after Pestilence left its vicinity.
But the moment that we brought Pestilence back, it seemed like it reacted to him returning and started releasing corruption energy once more. It was just that it didn’t seem as strong as the other array.
It seemed like there was something missing from this corruption energy array.
"It doesn’t have the sacrifice needed to release more corruption energy?" I thought to myself as I observed the corruption energy array.
We had already rescued all of the orcs that had been brought here while Pestilence had been distracted by the array that was formed by the others, so it was only natural that there weren’t any sacrifices left.
Now it was about what to do about this array.
Even though I had some ideas about this array after hearing what the cloaked orc said, it wasn’t as if I knew everything there was to know about this array. So I certainly didn’t know how to erase this array or turn it off.
The only thing that I could do was...
"How do we destroy this array?" I asked Pestilence without actually expecting anything.
And as I had expected, there was no response from him.
Even when I pressed the icicles right up against his neck, he didn’t seem to react at all.
This was far more important than his life, this was something that was related to the God of Destruction’s plan. There was a reason why he was one of the Four Omens, an Apostle of Destruction that was higher up than the other Apostles of Destruction.
They wouldn’t betray the God of Destruction that easily.
Since that was the case, the only thing that could be done was...
I raised my hand to summon the icicles, spikes of earth, and sharp vines.
While I didn’t know what would happen if I attacked it, perhaps it would shut it off if I hurt it enough...But I stopped myself before I actually released this attack.
After all, it felt wrong to do this.
It seemed like this was what they wanted me to do.
There was no way that they would leave this array unguarded like this.
Even if Pestilence was incapacitated like this, there should be some kind of defense for this array. A kind of defense that would be activated the moment that this array was attacked.
It felt like I was playing into their hands like this...
So I didn’t release that attack that I gathered in the end and just observed the array.
Seeing this, Pestilence suddenly said, "So now you know fear. Release me this instant and perhaps I can convince our lord to spare you."
I just ignored him when he said this.
Though him trying to provoke me like this did prove one thing.
I was right about there being defenses around this array, he was trying to goad me into attacking it just for that reason. As such, it would be the wrong move to attack this array now.
However, it wasn’t as if I could just leave this array here...
So after thinking about it, I stepped forward towards the array with Pestilence to clear the corruption energy monsters around us.
Once we approached, I waved my hand to send out the attacks that I had gathered previously.
It was just that I didn’t send them out like I was attacking the array.
Instead, I moved them over to where the parts of the array related to sacrificing something was and then left them floating there.
The way that I arranged things, it was as if I was sacrificing this divine energy to the array.
