CHAPTER 1 STORY 17
The Selfishness of the Ancient Dragon Luciella
“How strange…!”
Wrinkles appeared on the brow of the famous, the one and only, the ancient dragon Luciella. She groaned as she pondered, “Hmmmm…” At the moment, there was one question that was troubling her.
“Why is it that humans wear clothes? Must they wear clothes?”
The desire to not wear clothes was difficult to understand for humans like us.
Or rather, we wondered how she could say that, when we had gone out of our way to buy them and give them to her.
“Ohhh, they’re too constricting. I hate this feeling…” Luciella abruptly began to take her clothes off.
“Wait a second, what are you doing? No, really, what are you doing? Stop, please, we’re in public here!”
“Graaah, get off me! They’re coming off! I’m taking these things off! They feel awful!”
Right in the middle of town.
Luciella put her hands on her clothes while we were in the middle of talking. I forced her to stop. The personality who, until a few moments earlier, had been excited about clothes and even picked some out for herself, had apparently been discarded along with the clothes I had bought for her, and now there was just a girl throwing a terrible temper tantrum.
Because there in the middle of the main avenue, she was shouting and carrying on.
“What’s that? What’s that?” The people walking down the street started looking at us, wondering if we were fighting.
“Oh, oh no, some kind of quarrel?” As soon as that happened, people began stopping to watch.
“What on earth is all the fuss over here?” Before long, it had gotten to the point that a crowd had formed.
Ignoring the stares of the passing crowd, Luciella kept shaking her head.
“I haaate them! Let me gooo!” She tugged at her clothes vigorously.
“Come on now, listen to what I’m saying! Wait, seriously, cut it out, please!” I pushed her hands back down.
As the spectacle was unfolding, one of the people who had gathered around us went pale and shouted, “The witch is trying to take off that girl’s clothes! In public!”
Even though they missed the mark entirely, they shouted these heinous accusations. “It’s terrible! Miss Witch! What do you think you’re doing?!”
“No, that’s not…” But on second glance, our struggles definitely gave precisely that impression. It certainly looked like I was in the middle of perpetrating some inexcusable act against her.
“……”
Ultimately, the struggle ended with me pulling Luciella by the hand and forcing her to flee.
“Ah! The witch plans to take the girl with her to a hidden place and do indecent things to her!” I had a feeling I could hear such things behind me, but I pretended I hadn’t heard them and ran through the crowd at top speed.
“I just knew they would be uncomfortable…” After I fought my way through good-natured citizens who were trying to protect what they thought was a girl, Luciella continued to moan and complain.
What on earth can I do to stop her trying to take off her clothes in public like a crazy person?
The answer was in her behavior.
“Ah! Hey, you! I want to eat that ice cream stuff! Buy it for me, won’t you?”
In the end, she was so flighty and easily distracted that as soon as she spotted some new thing, that was enough to make even the constriction of clothing into a concern of the past.
“…Yes, of course.”
Ultimately, Luciella got her way, much to the detriment of my wallet.
Those days were far too hectic, but contrary to my expectations, also very fun.

I love naive, childlike characters. Even among all the guest characters that show up in each volume, Luciella is the type of girl I particularly like. Well, I call her a girl, but she’s really getting up there in years.
