CHAPTER 1 STORY 13
Little Witch
At this point in time, I am a child.
A cute little girl. In this state, it’s impossible for me to even do proper magic, but I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t take advantage of this situation. If you want to know why, it’s because I’m a traveler!
All right, let’s hurry up and get to the moneymaki—
“And? Why is it that you’re dressed like that, again? Whose child could you be?”
I left the inn, and several minutes later, I was nabbed by a guard on his rounds and taken into protective custody.
Apparently, they were wary of witches in this country at the present moment, so it must have looked suspicious for a young girl to be wearing a witch’s costume in spite of that, and muttering to herself, “Heh-heh…money…money…”
I apologized through tears. “……Waah! Sniff… I’m sorry… I won’t do it again…”
Of course, this was an act. I wouldn’t be me if I repented just because someone got angry with me.
“Oh no, I don’t know why you’re crying… Anyway, that outfit is giving people the wrong idea, so stop wearing it, okay?”
“Okaaay…” I nodded, wiping away the tears (eye drops) that spilled from my eyes.
The following day—
Since dressing as a witch was apparently a bad thing, this time I decided to imitate a fortune-teller to make some money. I figured if I wore my hood low, no one would be able to tell that I was just an ordinary little gir—
“And? Why are you out making money in a place like—? Hey, you again?”
Several minutes after I started telling fortunes, I was nabbed by a soldier on his rounds and taken into protective custody.
Apparently, they had been thoroughly warned in this country against people who planted themselves along the road and conducted shady commerce. It was probably because they already had young girls selling weird tonics in the street. Unforgivable.
“Waah…sniff… I’m really sorry… I won’t do it again…” Right away, I overdid it with the crying again.
Is there a single adult around who can go up against a little girl’s tears? No, of course there isn’t.
“…Jeez. Well, fine. Don’t cry like that, please. It makes it look like I’m bullying you, see?” The soldier frowned, looking troubled, and crouched down as he said, “Well, I don’t think you had any bad intentions, so I’m not going to scold you too badly here. But you mustn’t do this sort of thing ever again, you hear?”
“Yeees…”
It seems like he’s going to forgive me. Just like I thought, there’s nothing as powerful as the tears of a young gir—
“Mm. I’m glad you understand. Now, for the fine.”
“Huh? I have to pay?”
“Of course you do.”
“…Sniff.”
“Crying won’t do you any good.”
“…Tch.”
“Don’t you click your tongue!”
Sure enough, doing bad things isn’t good. As I pondered that, I slapped the money for the fine into the soldier’s hand.
Dressing like a mage was bad. Telling fortunes along the road was bad. Since those things meant I had to pay a fine, in the end, I went back to selling matches.

This is an incident that took place in the spare moments of Priscilla’s story. I’m changing the subject here, but I was so happy that little girl Elaina made an appearance in both the comic and the anime. Little Elaina is so cute…
