Short Story: The Intentions of the Gods
“Hmm, it seems he is doing quite well.” As I gazed at the TV I had here in the divine realm, I took a sip of my tea.
The youth known as Mochizuki Touya was a good person at heart. No trips to other worlds could change that, so there was really nothing for me to worry about. However, I was glad to see that he adapted to his situation. After all, the moment I accidentally dropped my divine lightning and realized that it hit a person scared me to death. Though there were some exceptions, we gods could not use our powers to meddle in mortal affairs.
It made me feel bad for the boy when I thought this, but I was glad it was a small lightning strike that hit him. If it were any larger, it might have sunk the entire island. Nothing could be done if that were to happen, so I was fortunate that it only killed a single person, no matter how unfortunate it was for him. Nevertheless, my carelessness caused his life to end, so I wanted him to at the very least enjoy his new life in a whole new world.
“This one’s pretty interesting. I like him.”
The one who said that was the god of love. The way she chewed on the castellas placed on the table was quite discourteous.
“I like how he’s so dense despite being such a hit with the ladies.”
“Really? I’m more interested in his swordsmanship. It could really shine with a bit of polish, and I’d really like to see it at its best.”
As he took a sip of the tea he’d just poured from the teapot, the god of swords replied to the god of love. Whenever they had the time, they would come and see what was happening in Touya’s current world. The gods of agriculture, hunting, music, alcohol, and war would also pop in every now and then.
“Should you not be working?”
“My underlings do all the legwork for me, so there’s no need for worry there.”
